M-House

Los Angeles

750 ft2 / 70 m2

A bold transformation of an unloved brick garage, M-House is an accessory dwelling unit built to the rear of an existing home in LA’s Eagle Rock neighborhood.  Blessed with the possibility of extraordinary views and light, the project builds up, over, and around the garage, weaving together a series of spaces that offer a compact but functional home, still suitable for entertaining, offering not only all the necessities of life, but many of its joys as well.  Working from a simple material palette of stucco, marine plywood, and ceramic tile, materials and shapes are deployed throughout the home to create a sense of place where one can experience the luxuries of thought and time.
