This unique, vast, mid-century modern home with a grand scale and Palladian pretensions had suffered through a misguided renovation and then significant mold damage. Reduced to a beautiful ruin and stripped to its steel and concrete bones, the opportunity presented itself for a radical reconception. The clients, with a background in the art world, were open to a loft-style redesign, where simple but elegant and comforting private spaces would contrast with a sort of rough-luxe approach to the public spaces, with exposed structure and a commercial style kitchen. The unexpected circular bedroom serves as a striking endpoint to the architectural sequence and defly reframes the existing windows and views.
