The Möbius Boat was proposed as an adjunct of the Himalayas Museum, Shanghai. While the main museum benefited from a large exhibition area, this was unfortunately somewhat remote from the centre of Shanghai. Therefore it was proposed that a boat could rectify this situation by instantly giving the museum a gallery in the very centre of the city, which moreover could redefine the idea of a travelling exhibition by allowing the gallery itself to travel worldwide. As the name implies, the form of the boat is derived from the idea of a Möbius strip as a continuous looping ribbon. The boat would have a large semi-enclosed space on the main deck that could be used for events or large-scale outdoor exhibitions, with enclosed gallery space belowdecks.
