Cofco Farms was a concept masterplan commissioned by one of China’s most prominent conglomerates for a visionary agri-tourism-industrial complex situated southwest of Beijing. As a large conglomerate, Cofco sought to develop a large tract of land into an area that could combine productive and research-oriented agriculture, tourism, housing, manufacturing, and the opportunity to highlight key products such as dairy and wine.
The scheme began with the idea of hydrology, in particular with the question of whether, rather than adapting itself to the landscape, the landscape could in fact be manipulated to generate a desired water flow. Ultimately this idea evolved into a rippled surface that could encompass the scale of the site and its activities, using the topography not only to facilitate agricultural activities but to accommodate indoor program below as well.
