Allen Apartments II will rehabilitate the shell of a severely distressed historic building to insert an all-new structure containing approximately 9 residential units. The project features a distinctive mixture of historic and contemporary construction, with a variety of outdoor spaces of differing scales, giving each unit a unique spatial experience. The massing builds on the evolution of the historic structure, by referencing the scale and proportions of the original house at the core of the site. A recipient of state and federal historic preservation tax credits, the project will also incorporate innovative, environmentally-friendly mechanical systems such as high-efficiency heat pumps and solar hot water. The project will also build on asap’s earlier work on adjacent parcels on this block. furthering the development of the historic district.
